The Stevens family from Cumbria tarvelled to South Africa for a first plains game hunt for Adam and a Garden Route tour for the ladies

Family Hunt in South Africa

We were excited to welcome the Stevens family to South Africa over Easter weekend. We planned on a first African plains game hunt for 11 year old Adam. Later the ladies did a tour down the Garden Route visiting Plettenberg Bay, Arniston and Cape Town.

We had a good first day with Adam hunting his nyala just after sunrise, a majestic nyala bull. Ove the course of the next few days Adam shot a blesbok, springbok and impala, barely missing a shot. A great introduction to African hunting.

Richard also got some hunting time, taking an impala himself. We visited the Addo Elephant National Park and had some terrificly close encounters with elephant, cape buffalo and plains game. That evening Theuns arrived in camp to guide the ladies to a 5 day Garden Route Tour. They visited Plettenberg Bay, Arniston and Cape Town where they would meet up with the Richard and Adam at the conclusion of their hunt.

We changed hunting areas and moved to a hunt a private game reserve in the Graaff Reinet area. Father and son took turns on the rifle hunting two black wildebeest and two burchells zebra over the course of the following couple of days. Shooting distances were a bit further in the more open terrain but Adam adapted well, shooting well in diffcult circumstances for a youg boy.

We returned to Karoo Wild Lodge for the last few hunting days. Richard hunted a blesbok, Adam got a warthog.

It was a fantastic family hunt and tour and we look forward to welcoming Richard and Adam back in March 2024 for a contunuation of their African hunting adventures
