Hunting golden wildebeest is often referred to as the “poor man’s buffalo hunt”, Golden Wildebeest are a colour variant of the blue wildebeest and are identical in every other respect
Both sexes carry horns with the males being thicker and wider.
Sexing a trophy golden wildebeest from afar requires experience in the field with many apprentice PH’s “paying their school fees” along the way.
Golden wildebeest prefer savannah and when in open plains are seldom far from the thicketed edge of the plains. They are pound for pound the toughest of Africa’s antelope to put down. A .270 will suffice but choose a well-constructed, bonded bullet of 150 grains or more.
The cost of a blue wildebeest hunt is $2500 for a trophy golden wildebeest.
