About Cape Mountain Zebra

Much debate has centered around the classification of mountain zebra as two distinct subspecies. Cape mountain zebra are lighter in weight and have a smaller dewlap than the hartmanns mountain zebra.

Cape mountain zebra occur only in the Western and Eastern Cape Provinces of South Africa.

They differ from the burchells zebra in the following ways

-they have no shadow stripes

-their bellies are white and stripes don’t extend around the belly

-they have a dewlap and a yellow/orange tinge above their nose
