Roan Hunting Safari in South Africa

Bob's 3rd African Hunting Trip with Karoo Wild

Bob and friend Richard hunted with us in the late season for some rare and select African plains game species

Bob last hunted with us in 2018 and we've been planning his 3rd hunting safari with us for a couple of years with some Covid induced postponements disrupting our plans.

It was as much a hunt as a trip through South Africa. We began our hunt in the coastal area of Port Alfred taking an oribi on the first afternoon. The next afternoon, we were extremely lucky to connect with a gorgeous Vaal Rhebuck. Vaal Rhebuck hunting is a challenging mountain hunt and we put in the miles in the morning before luck shone upon us. The next day we drove up to the Northern Cape, where we hunted a golden wildebeest that afternoon.

The next morning we were soon stalking a world class roan. Our opportunity was a rushed one but Bob put in a terrific shot. Later that afternoon we connected with a Hartmann Mountain Zebra, one of the rarest zebra and a beautiful animal. We travelled back to the Eastern Cape the following morning, stopping in at the Vanderkloof Dam on the Orange River.

The few days we hunted out of Karoo Wild Lodge and were successful in hunting a Red Lechwe. One evening we searched for the nocturnal Cape Grysbuck, one of the rarest members of the Tiny Ten group on African antelope. Again, we were extremely fortunate to hunt a good area and we saw plenty Grysbuck.

It was terrific to hunt with Bob again and we enjoyed meeting and getting to know Richard. Thanks for trusting us with your dream African hunt!
